Yesterday I attended both the 60 Million Conference Global Polonia Summit and a gala dinner to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence. Then today, my granddaughters and I videotaped the Polish American Arts Festival General Pułaski Parade. Now I have to spend a day or two creating the videos and putting photos online... here on this page.
One video is already done. Junior US led Pulaski Parade grand marshals in a rousing celebration of Hej, Sokoły! Everyone got into it. Check it out! --->
Check back tomorrow for lots more.
July 23, 2018 - Pulaski Parade Video
I'd like to thank my daughter and granddaughters for helping me videotape the parade this year. That really made it special for me. I really had a blast. Also, I hope visitors to this website will share this video. Thanks.
I have photos to share, but it will take a several hours to get them online. Please check back regularly.

August 8, 2018 - Watkins Glen
I climbed the 832 steps to the top of Watkins Glen gorge this morning. Beautiful as usual, but I see things have changed since I last visited in 2014. Parking has been relocated at the main entrance. A smaller lot is near the visitor welcome center, but a larger lot is across the street. The old asphalt parking lot was transformed into a more natural landscaped park setting, including:
• A new visitor welcome center offering information about the park and other attractions in the region;
• A small outdoor amphitheater and improved educational displays on the park's human history and natural and geologic features, including a touchable model of the gorge;
• A new viewing area where people unable to hike the gorge will be able to enjoy a dramatic waterfall;
• Renovation and expansion of the existing concession building with expanded Taste of NY offerings including local wines and craft beverages and locally sourced ingredients in the new café area; and
• Renovation of public restrooms.
The mile and a half hike took 4o minutes to the top and about 30 minutes back to my car. I liked it. Well worth the effort!
August 23, 2018 - Saint Pie, Quebec
Here is my video of the gathering of artists and musicians I attended last Sunday in St-Pie, Quebec. FULL DISCLOSURE: the photos and videoclip of me were captured from Roget Pellerin's excellent video, which you can view here: https://youtu.be/Svd6HFII4Ro. Merci, Roger. I am also guilty of lifting Hélène Desjardins's photo of artist extraordinaire, Yvon Provost. Special thanks to Roseline Dugas for the invitation to this fun happening and to my buddies, Ghyslaine Legault and Pierre Dubuc, for putting up with me once more. That's Dan Cabana on harmonica, BTW! Also, thank you Danielle Rodier and Richard LeBeau for the BBQ and good times! On Tuesday, I visited the Granby Zoo with friends. It's a beautiful zoo with many interesting things to see; very clean and well organized. I recommend it. Unfortunatdly, we only had enough time to see two continents: Africa and Asia. South America and Oceana will have to wait for next year.
August 27, 2018 - Kayaking the Genesee
I got up at 3 AM last night and could not fall back asleep, so I loaded up the kayak at 5:30 and made my way over to the Genesee Waterways Center located in Genesee Valley Park. To get there, enter the swimming pool/ice arena parking lot on Elmwood Avenue, then drive to the back of the lot. I have a cart for my kayak, but the distance to the kayak/canoe launch is not very far. If you go, the dock on the far left is the public dock. The dock on the right is for the Center.
Unfortunately, it was a cloudy day so my video is a bit dark. I hope to go again next week on a sunnier day. I'll probably go in the afternoon if it isn't too hot.
Family Research and Lunch
I should also mention that I had lunch yesterday with cousin Joe Zielinski, whom I only recently met through Ancestry.com. Joe's great great great grandmother, Katarzyna Stopińska, was my grandmother’s (Ewa Stopińska-Jasiek) big sister. We then went to St. Stanislaus Cemetery to visit the graves of our ancestors.
Joe’s grandparents (Osiński) ran a pharmacy at 1325 Sycamore on Buffalo’s East Side, and his great grand parents had a meat market on the corner of Paderewski and Coit Streets, also on Buffalo's East Side.
Joe works for the State Department as an architect. Great guy!
September 3, 2018 - Kayaking the Buffalo River
I finally got to visit Buffalo with my kayak. Riverworks has a rolling kayak/canoe launch, which makes it very easy to get your kayak into the water without getting wet. Launching can be a little tricky at times. It was a hot, muggy afternoon, but cooler on the water. Glad I went. Now I am tempted to try their zip line. I think that would make a fun video.
September 9, 2018 - Gen. Pulaski Association to honor "Outstanding Men of Polonia"
I am grateful for having been named an Outstanding Man of Polonia last night by the General Casimir Pulaski Association in Buffalo, New York; and I am especially happy my family was there to share the moment. A wonderful time! Finally congratulations to all the other honorees: Gary Bienkowski, Adam Bobak, Robert Johnson, Jim Kaczorowski, James Lawicki, Grzegorz Nowacki, Kevin Pilarski, The Honorable Paul Piotrowski, Joseph Mikołaj Rej, Jr., Brian Dwight Rusk, Michael Szefranski, Tom Zawadzki, Andy Zmijewski. Lifetime Achievement Award: Joseph Macielag. Thank you all. My parents would be proud.
