"HAJDUKI" is the oldest folk song and dance group from Oswiecim, Poland. It was set up at a Company Community Centre of Chemical Company "Oswiecim" in 1968. The group was formed in untypical circumstances. In 1968 it was enrolled for the Folk Festival of Regional Trade Unions of Chemists in Jelenia Gora ...but in fact the group did not exist at that time. It came into being within 3 months, thanks to Maria Romowicz from Zywiec. It was she who prepared the group for the festival which turned out to be successful for "HAJDUKI". They were given special mention, what is more they were hailed as the most spontaneous, lively and graceful group of the festival.
In 2002 the group "HAJDUKI" was verified positively and recommended for Polish Section of C.I.O.F.F.- International Council of Organizations for Folklore Festivals and Folk Art. "HAJDUKI" usually performs at the cultural events important for Oswiecim and nearby regions. It also travels abroad to take part in numerous festivals. It has already been to Germany, Belgium, Macedonia, Turkey, France, Croatia, Bosna and Hercegovina, Hungary and Latvia.
The group's repertoire includes national dances, dances and songs of the Kujawy, Lublin, Nowy Sacz, Opoczno and Cracow regions. Last year "HAJDUKI" celebrated the 40th anniversary. During this long period, the group's choreographer and artistic director was Mrs Zofia Menelska, from this year this position is held by Mr Marek Pociennik. The group is accompanied by a music band which is managed by Mr. Jacek Furtak.
