A new radio show called The Polish American Program, debuted on WEBR 1440 AM and online worldwide at WEBR1440.com, on Saturday, July 11 at 11:05 a.m. The program’s host is Andy Gołębiowski. The one hour show features a wide variety of music from Poland, the U.S., and other countries, introduced in English.

The music presented ranges from folk to classical, from something as unique as pre-war Polish jazz, to patriotic, and religious music, to modern pop, in Polish, and in English.

In addition to hearing it on WEBR 1440 AM in WNY and southern Ontario, listeners can hear the program online anywhere in the world, at WEBR1440.com through a cellphone, computer, tablet, or Alexa.

New ownership at 1440 AM has changed the station’s call letters from WJJL to WEBR and unveiled a new format called The Great American Songbook. Weekends include ethnic and jazz programming.

WEBR featured Polish programs in the early 1930s sponsored by various Polish-owned businesses, among them the Podeszwa i Kordula comedy show sponsored by Kolipinski Furniture, a show which the Fr. Justin Rosary Hour grew out of. Beginning July 11, The Rosary Hour in Polish will precede Gołębiowski’s program, at 10:30 a.m. every Saturday.

The Polish American Program will be rebroadcast every Sunday from 6:05 p.m.-7 p.m. For more information about the new program, or interest in sponsorship, please contact Andy Gołębiowski at 716-510-7562, or write to AndyRadio1440@gmail.com

Program 1: July 11 & 12, 2020 -  Debut of The Polish American Program
A new radio show called The Polish American Program, debuted today on WEBR 1440 AM in Buffalo, NY (and available online worldwide) featuring a wide variety of music from Poland, the U.S., and other countries. I loved it! Go HERE for program details.

The program got off to a good start. I was totally blown away by the wide variety of musical genres featured by the program's host, Andy Gołębiowski. First of all, after listening to a nice introduction in both Polish and English, host Andy played a folk song I very much love: "Lipka" (Linden Tree) by Rokiczanka, a wonderful Polish folk group. Coincidentally, I happened to be sipping on linden tea as I listened to the song and Andy's comments about the cultural significance of the linden tree in Poland. What are the chances of that happening!?

Next, he played Henryk Wieniawski's Kujawiak a-moll, another favorite of mine which my dad frequently played on his violin when I was a boy. I even attempted playing it on guitar a few years ago in memory of my dad and used it as a model for another composition in honor of my paternal grandparents, Jakób Jasiek (1853-1914) and Ewa Stopińska (1864-1937). Again, what are the chances of that happening!? Very rare indeed.

This week's musical selections included Mazowsze, Rokiczanka, Rzeszowiacy, and Happy Louie and Julcia.

And the remainder of the program was wonderful: very entertaining and informative. I hope you become a regular listener. The Polish American Program is scheduled for rebroadcast Sundays, 6:05 - 7 p.m.

MAKING BUFFALO HOME

In this community filmmaker video, Andy Gołębiowski shares the story of Chester, Wanda, and Stanley: three Polish-Americans who made Buffalo their home after harrowing experiences of being arrested by Russians, and then sent to work in Soviet labor camps during WWII. These three, along with people like Andy’s parents, survived the unthinkable, and struggled to find a better life in America.
